Owners of a Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone in the UK will get a taste of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system when the platform becomes available for the handset.

Samsung UK has just confirmed the move via its Twitter account, though the company did not offer a specific release date for the software update.

“Hi, good news - the Galaxy S II will be receiving ICS, but there are no dates confirmed as yet. We will keep you posted,” the handset vendor announced.

Previously, Samsung announced plans to deliver the update to some of its Galaxy smartphones, but did not offer specific info on when the update might arrive, nor on the markets that will receive it.

Most probably, the new update will be pushed to handsets starting with the next year, so stay tuned for more on the matter.
