Mobile phone carrier Sprint has just added to its offering the Samsung Trender, an affordable device that packs support for the carrier's CDMA network, along with support for the ESMR band.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the ESMR band (817-824MHz and 862-869MHz) is being freed as result of the phase out of the carrier's iDEN network, which would be transitioned to CDMA.

Samsung Trender is the very first mobile phone on Sprint's network to come with support for the ESMR band, while packing a design similar to that of Samsung Seek.

The new mobile phone comes with a 2.8-inch touchscreen display complemented by a sliding QWERTY keyboard, and sports a casing built using recycled materials.

It spots a 1.3-megapixel photo snapper on the back, along with various multimedia features, such as built-in music and video players.

It also comes with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, as well as with Bluetooth connectivity, and microUSB port. A 3.5mm headphone jack was included into the mix as well.

“An intuitive touchscreen phone with a full QWERTY keyboard, the Samsung Trender offers you easy messaging at a great value,” Sprint notes on its website.

“The Trender comes with Instant Messenger pre-loaded, and the threaded text messaging feature helps you track all your conversations at a glance.

“Enjoy simplified access to your favorite email services-- AOL, Windows Live Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo! Mail — plus options to sync your work email and calendars. With this phone’s fashionable colors you can keep in touch and look cool at the same time without breaking the bank.”

The mobile phone comes with a XHTML, WAP 2.0 mobile browser, Picture ID, Ring ID, SMS and Threaded messaging, and other features as well.

Those of you interested in the new, affordable device, will find it available on Sprint's website here, featuring a price tag of $29.99 with the signing of a two-year contract agreement. The phone sports an off-contract cost of $229.99.
