About two weeks ago we reported on Samsung applying for a couple of Galaxy family new names: Galaxy Metrix, Galaxy Velvet and Galaxy Legend.

Today, the guys over at Fusible learned that the South Korean company applied for a new trademark at the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office).

The trademark application was submitted for Galaxy Variant on April 28, under “Mobile telephones” / “Smartphones” category.

However, this doesn’t mean anything as Samsung previously trademarked for other Galaxy names, such as Accelerate, Express, Thunder, Emerge, Halo, and Stellar, and none has been used until today.

With only one day left until Samsung plans to unveil its “next Galaxy” smartphone, it will be interesting to see whether the company will use any of the recently trademarked names for one of Galaxy S III variants.
