South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics might be finally getting ready for the release of smartphones running under the Tizen operating system.

The company is expected to have the devices ready for launch at the Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona next month, and it should also announce the launch of an app store for them.

According to a recent article on mainichi, the handset vendor is set to put said handsets on shelves sometime in spring this year.

Samsung’s Tizen-based phones are expected to become available for purchase in China, Japan, and South Korea, with NTT Docomo being one of the carriers set to add them to its offering.

Some of the main features of Tizen include the fact that companies will be able to freely adjust it to fit their devices, and that it offers easy app development features. Hopefully, the new report will pan out, especially since Samsung has missed a lot of timeframes with Tizen, as SamMobile notes.
