South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics has been long rumored to plan the launch of a premium version of the newly unveiled Galaxy S5 smartphone, but it seems that this might not happen after all.

In fact, Samsung's boss, J.K. Shin, was the one to debunk the rumors, stating loud and clear during an interview with Korean publications that there’s no such thing as a premium S5 smartphone.

Basically, he said that Samsung is not looking to release a new flagship anytime soon. He did say, however, that the company will be launching a new such device in the Galaxy Note series this fall.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Samsung was previously rumored to plan the release of a Galaxy S5 model that would include a 2K screen and a metallic body, along with other enhanced specs,

Initial reports on Galaxy S5 suggested that Samsung might release the phone with very high-end capabilities packed inside right from the start, though that did not happen.

However, the company was also said to be planning the launch of F-Series devices in the not too distant future, with an aim at the very high-end segment of the market.

The premium version of Galaxy S5 was then rumored to be included in this new family of smartphones, but Samsung’s officials have just stepped up to say that there are no plans for such a device.

However, as PhoneArena notes, J.K. Shin didn’t say that Samsung might never launch the rumored F-Series handsets. He only unveiled that there will be no new, better spec’d flavor of Galaxy S5 brought to the market.

At the same time, Kwon Oh-hyun, Samsung Electronics’ VP, suggested that the company is looking at maintaining its top position in key segments of the market, including mobile phones, through releasing premium devices.

This suggests that the F-Series handsets might still arrive on the market, and that it could also include a flagship smartphone, which could turn out to include the 2K screen and metallic design that the premium Galaxy S5 was said to pack.

Previous reports on the matter also suggested that Samsung might be set to make the new lineup official sometime in May, which means that there’s still plenty of time left for additional details on the matter to become official.

One thing that is certain for the time being, however, is the fact that a Galaxy Note 4 smartphone will be released later this month, and that it will be a flagship phone, the same as the other three handsets in the series were.
