We all know, especially us passionate gamers, just how important an advanced video card might turn out to be. It must offer high quality images, but also allow the game to be played at a decent speed.
And probably with this purpose in mind, the Korean giant Samsung has just announced the development of what seems to be the world's fastest
graphic memory chip. Thus, the new 2Gbps 90 nm 512Mb graphics double data rate 3 (GDDR3) dynamic Ram solution can reach speeds of up to 8.0 GigaBytes per second, which is almost 70% faster than any of the current 1.2 Gbps chips.
In order to explain the chip's performances in less technical terms, the Samsung officials have stated that it is able to load the equivalent of about half a million newspaper pages each second.
The solution will be available for PCs, work stations and high-end gaming consoles, hence all the devices that can be used for gaming or computer graphics, and Samsung's intention is to start the mass production of the new chips by the end of the year. So, next year we're expecting the first video cards fitted with this type of chip, which is sure to revolutionize the world of computer games.
