It looks like Samsung is really going to take on the iPod, their latest efforts taking the shape of the YP-Z5. More than Just two letters that when said out loud sound like 'wipe', the YP signals a new and improved model with lots of exciting new features.
Much like the previous Z5, this model retails its block shape, being thicker and heavier than the nano. While some may not like this form factor, others might enjoy the feeling of something
they can grab on to. The model still boasts the now familiar Samsung square click wheel, a small miracle in itself.
The YP-Z5 comes in three models, each with its own additional letter: the 1GB Z5-Z (RRP $229), the 2GB Z5-Q (RRP $319) and the 4GB Z5-A (RRP $379). While being a bit more expensive than the Apple offering, the Samsung players have more battery life.
The other improvements to the line come in the areas of control and integration.
In terms of control, the people at Samsung have thought hard on how to make everyone's day just a little more surreal: the player is controlled by gently flicking it. While it is definitely a differentiating factor, this method of control is reported to be greatly inefficient as the flicking is hard to control and the user keeps ending up on the wrong track.
In terms of integration, the player lets you drag files directly into it, so you may, if you wish to, avoid having to use Windows Media 10 software. Furthermore, Samsung has gone all the way with this player and has achieved Microsoft PlaysForSure accreditation. This means that you can use it with all those services that hardly anyone uses.
