Samsung officially announced the Star 3 and Star 3 DUOS last month, and the Korean handset maker mentioned that both handsets would be available in Russia from January-end after which they would be gradually deployed all over Europe.

Today, the company confirmed that the Star 3 would be available in the UK as Samsung Tocco Lite 2. Customers will be able to purchase this affordable feature-phone from multiple carriers and retailers, beginning March.

The successor of the old Tocco Lite handset, Samsung Star 3 comes with only a handful of new features in terms of hardware. It also runs Samsung’s TouchWiz Lite 2.0 user interface, which is especially designed for feature-phones.

Our range of Tocco devices have been among our best-selling over the past few years. Thanks to the incredible response we’ve had to the original Tocco Lite and Tocco Icon handsets, we’re excited to now be offering our customers improved social networking and enhanced multimedia capabilities with the Tocco Lite 2,” said Simon Stanford, managing director at Samsung Mobile UK & IRE.

One of the differences between the two Tocco Lite handsets is the 3-inch touchscreen. The old model comes with a resistive display, whereas Samsung Tocco Lite 2 has a capacitive touchscreen.

In addition, the new Tocco Lite 2 also offers users Wi-Fi support, while the original model lacks this connectivity option. Furthermore, the phone packs 20MB of internal memory, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB). There’s also a 3-megapixel rear camera with video recording.

Our aim with this new handset is to build on the features we know our customers enjoy and find useful by providing greater synergy between their mobile handset and their social networks, and in doing so, giving them more ways to stay in touch with their friends and loved ones when they’re on the move,” concluded Stanford.
