Samsung Electronics announced today the release of Samsung Soul, the company's new flagship handset for 2008, presented as the "Spirit" of the Ultra Edition series. The phone will make its official debut next week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain (11 - 14 February).

Samsung Soul comes in a slim, stylish slider case, while at the same time packing high-end features - a perfect combination between portability and functionality. The handset offers a Magical Touch navigation pad that adjusts itself according to your needs, making the whole mobile experience simple and intuitive. Although ultra-slim, measuring only 105.9 x 49.5 x 12.9 millimeters, the phone is 3G enabled, offering HSDPA connectivity for data transfer speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps.

The new Samsung packs a 5 Megapixel camera with image stabilizer, WDR (Wide Dynamic Range), face detection, 4x digital zoom and QVGA video recording. Unfortunately, there's no auto focus, nor Xenon flash, but it's still a nice camera that will allow users to take good-quality photos.

Further specs of the Soul phone include a 2.2 inch display with 16 million colors and 240 x 320 pixel resolution, user changed Graphic Interface, Bluetooth 2.0, Media player, Music library, speaker amplifier with Bang & Olufsen ICEpower technology, FM radio, Mobile blogging, Google mail and search, RSS feeds reader and microSD card support for boosting the internal memory.

Another thing to mention is that, when slided, Samsung Soul reminds me of Nokia 6500 slide, but the resemblance disappears once the phone is closed. Anyway, the handset looks gorgeous, that's kind of hard to contest.

Samsung Soul will be available in April across Europe for a price that hasn't been disclosed yet. However, it's said to come with a major global advertising campaign, therefore the US will surely get this shiny and slim handset, too.
