New group wants to standardize 3D glasses Enlarge picture - New group wants to standardize 3D glasses
With 3D apparently gaining traction, Panasonic Corporation, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd and Sony Corporation, along with X6D Limited (XPAND 3D), decided to pool their resources.

Their goal is to standardize 3D active shutter glasses for consumers instead of allowing the current situation to perpetuate.

For those unaware, while 3D displays (or projectors) always come with their own glasses, said glasses are usually incompatible across displays from other brands.

This is because each company uses a different technology to make the eyewear, something that the new 3D supergroup wants to change by standardizing RF and IR system protocols between all XPAND 3D models.

Joint testing will begin later this month (November, 2011) and should mark the first step towards making any and all 3D panels compatible with the same sort of 3D glasses, bulky or otherwise.
