Samsung is taking an increasing amount of interest in the MP3 player market. After setting the objective to exceed the famous iPod, Samsung has been launching all sorts of MP3 players, some with hard discs and other with flash memory.
But since iPod's popularity is still unaffected and seeing the success Apple had by introducing
podcasting into iTunes, Samsung has come up with a similar strategy.
The Korean company has announced today that it will launch new MP3 players which will be able to receive XM Satellite Radio transmissions.
This is a satellite radio service based in Washington DC which is owned by companies, such as: News Corporation's DirecTV, General Motors, American Honda, Hughes Electronics and a series of private investment funds.
XM Satellite Radio broadcasts commercial free programs, by using the pay-for-service service, and at this moment, it has 67 music channels, 39 news channels and 21 traffic and weather forecast channels.
Samsung intends to launch by the end of the year two flash memory players that will be accompanied by a kit that will allow them to connect to XM Satellite Radio.
