Samsung and Apple’s relationship is bound to get tighter

Samsung and Apple’s frenemy relationship will be extending well into 2015. A while ago, we told you that the Korean tech giant was poised to manufacture Apple’s next-gen A9 chips that will go into this year’s new iPhone models.

The two companies have been working together ever since 2010, but their relationship has been sprinkled with legal litigation over patent infringement issues. Nevertheless, Samsung was there for Apple and built the chips for the iPhone 4 and also provided display units for Cupertino’s lineup of iPads and MacBooks.

Now, a new report coming to us via Bloomberg is showing that Samsung is ready to take its relationship with Apple to the next level. Apparently, Samsung Display has created a dedicated team of around 200 employees that will focus specifically on producing displays for Apple products.

Apple and Samsung's bond to get ever tighter

This group is going to be kept under key and will not be allowed to share any information related to upcoming Apple products with the press. Not like LG did anyway. A few days ago, an interesting press release from the company showed up online, revealing that the Korean display maker was working towards producing an impressive 8K display for Apple’s upcoming iMac product.

Going back to Samsung’s new Apple-dedicated team, the group will also work on sales and towards strengthening the bond between the two archrivals.

Samsung is pushing very hard towards becoming a major supplier of mobile components this year. Besides focusing intensely on its smartphone business, the Korean tech giant is also developing its own CPU with custom cores.

A recent report has revealed that the Korean tech giant is developing a next-gen Exynos processor with custom cores dubbed Mongoose, which will be taking the place of ARM’s Cortex A72 cores.

They will be clocked at 2.3GHz and apparently the new chip will be able to provide a 45% increase in performance over the current Exynos 7420, which powers the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

Samsung might become more relevant than Qualcomm

Another rumor says Samsung will soon start supplying 14nm processors to Qualcomm. The information has been floating around since earlier this year, when it was revealed that Samsung could become Qualcomm’s main provider beginning Q2 2015.

On top of everything, becoming closer to Apple will certainly help Samsung solidify its position in the hardware supply chain. But it remains to be seen if the constant bickering between the two doesn’t end up pulling a toll on what Samsung is trying to build here.
