Those who thought the Series 7 of devices from Samsung is composed of only notebooks now have all the proof they need to think otherwise, what with a new tablet PC bearing a similar moniker.
After so many years, even IT companies are starting to run into trouble when it comes to inventing a catchy name for a product.
In fact, they seem to have decided on a mostly generic product naming scheme, with figures to determine generation.
Labeling a set of products as Series x also helps categorize devices according to their target user base, performance and versatility.
Samsung recently released the Series 7 of laptop PCs, but there is a different Series 7 device now under the eye of the web.
Basically, the company built a tablet with a similar name, one that is powered by an x86 processor and runs the Microsoft Windows operating system (media slates usually have an ARM-Android platform).
More specifically, an Intel Core i5-2467M CPU (clocked at 1.6 GHz) is used, as is a solid state drive with 64 GB or 128 GB.
4 GB of RAM (random access memory) are present, as are two webcams (front and back, of 3 and 2 megapixels, respectively), a SIM card slot, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, mini HDMI and USB 2.0 (one port), among other things
Finally, the 11.6-inch display has a native resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels and the operating system loaded onto the electronic is Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional.
Sales will start in September, 2011 (this month), for $1,099 (64 GB, Windows 7 Home premium) or $1,349 (Windows 7 Professional or Windows 7 Home premium plus keyboard and dock).
Hopefully this particular product will not suffer from all the courtroom-induced delays and bans that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 has, unfortunately, been subjected to.
