South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics has unveiled today that it managed to sell a number of more than 2.34 million mobile phones on the market in its homeland country during the month of May.

According to the leading handset vendor, this amount of sales would bring the total number of sales up by over 33 percent when compared to the amount of sales the company registered in April.

Apparently, the company's Galaxy devices are those who helped it increase sales significantly during the last month.

Samsung Galaxy S II, the latest addition to the company's Android lineup, registered sales of over 1 million units during the first 30 days of availability.

The mobile phone was launched in South Korea in late April, and registered increased interest from mobile phone users in the country straight from the pre-order period.

With over 1 million units sold to date, Samsung Galaxy S II becomes the fastest selling handset on the market in South Korea.

In May, Samsung's market share on the smartphone segment in South Korea was high at 81 percent.

The company's overall share on the local mobile phone market was of 58.1 percent in May.

Samsung's market share is increasing around the world as well, and should see a nice bump courtesy of the recently released Galaxy S II.

The handset, powered by a 1.2GHz application processor and running under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread promises a great mobile experience and increased performance capabilities.

It already managed to outsell Apple's iPhone 4 in various markets around the world, and is expected to become the top selling smartphone in even more of them.

Samsung has yet to launch it in the United States, but it might not be too long before it makes the move. The same as its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy, the new device would be released via all major wireless carriers in the country.
