Today, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung announced its financial results for the third quarter of the ongoing year, and posted mobile phone sales of 71.4 million in the time frame. Moreover, the company unveiled sales figures for some of its most popular devices at the moment, the Samsung Galaxy S

and Wave.

According to the company, it managed to ship a number of no less than 7 million Galaxy S devices in the three-month period ended September 30th, 2010.

Undoubtedly, this is an impressive achievement for the company, especially since the device was not available in all markets where it should have been right from the beginning of the quarter.

In Q3, Samsung had the Galaxy S smartphone launched in a series of European countries, as well as in Asia-Pacific, and in the United States.

Some of the markets where the handset proved highly popular were South Korea, where it passed the 1 million units sold mark in about two months after launch, and the United States, where it went on sale via all major carriers in the country.

Most probably, Samsung will soon manage to pass the 10 million sold units mark with Galaxy S, as it now has it available in more markets, via even more carriers than before.

Another interesting announcement Samsung made was that it sold over 2 million Wave devices. The handset runs under the company's own operating system, bada, which was announced officially in late 2009.

The Wave phones, currently about six models, though not all available on shelves, are powerful devices, all touchscreen enabled, and offering various services to their users, along with applications and support for communication features like email, messaging or social networking.

The mobile phone maker also announced that its handset unit managed to increase sales by 12 percent in the quarter, and that it posted revenue of 11.12 trillion won, along with an operating profit of 1.13 trillion won.

For the ongoing quarter, Samsung aims at increasing its market share, while enjoying double digit operating profit.

Also, a recent article on Samsung Hub notes that the company confirmed plans to ship a large number of Galaxy Tab units, its first Android-based tablet PC. The company said that it should ship more than 6 million slates next year, which suggests that they are probably aiming at 10 million.
