South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics managed to claim the top position on the smartphone market in China in 2012, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

Apparently, the company was capable of tripling its sales in the country last year, reaching 30.06 million units and gaining 17.7 percent market share, data coming from Strategy Analytics reportedly shows.

Samsung started selling smartphones in China in 2009, yet this is the first time when it manages to claim the top place in the segment.

A post on yonhapnews.co.kr notes that the success enjoyed by Samsung in China might be the result of the worldwide recognition that the company has seen lately.

Later this week, Samsung is set to unveil to the world its next Android-based flagship device, the Galaxy S IV, which might arrive in China soon, further strengthening the company’s position in this market.
