Samsung has high hopes for the new hard-drives based on flash memories and believes that if prices for this type of memory decrease, these solutions will soon replace classic storage solutions.

Samsung, which has already announced the 16GB flash memory prototype, considers that the solution has many advantages, especially because of the increased resistance to shocks and superior faster transfer rates.

The Korean company says flash memory hard-disks are ideal for equipments such as Apple's PowerBook and iBook, but also for multimedia devices and cell phones.

Samsung officials said that the company's efforts to promote flash memory hard-disks won't stop at 16GB and in a few years they hope to manufacture 100GB solutions.

The price for such a hard-drive is still unknown, but Samsung is convinced that the demand for such solutions is high.
