LG Telecom, the South Korean mobile carrier controlled by LG Group, has recently unveiled a new Samsung smartphone, announced to be launched soon for its Korean subscribers. The handset we're talking about is Samsung SPH-M4655 and it was presented in the same press release that announces the availability of
LG Secret for the South Korean market.
The new Samsung is a better version of the SPH-M4650 model, which dates from November last year. We can see that the new handset brings a front-facing camera for video calls (not present in the SPH-M4650). Furthermore, the M4655 features CDMA2000 EV-DO Rev A. connectivity for high data transfer speeds and, most probably, Windows Mobile 6.1 OS - as opposed to the 6.0 version of the older smartphone.
Besides the new stuff, SPH-M4655 is basically the same as SPH-M4650, thus the rest of its features include a 2.8 inch TFT touchscreen display with 240 x 320 pixels, a 2 Megapixel camera with video recording, mobile TV capabilities, Bluetooth and USB, a 624 MHz processor, 128MB of RAM, 256 MB of ROM and microSD card support - all in a metallic case that measures 14 millimeters in thickness.
If you look carefully at the front video call camera of SPH-M4655, you'll notice it looks like it's an "OZ" written there. Well, it actually is, since both the new Samsung and the LG Secret are customized for a 3G service that LG Telecom is offering, named OZ and developed to offer lots of 3G-related applications and features.
Samsung SPH-M4655 will be available from LG Telecom sometime later in the summer, for a retail price of 500,000 KRW - about 480 USD or 300 Euros. For the moment, there are no details to confirm an eventual release of the smartphone in other markets than the South Korean one.
