South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics is reportedly getting ready for the launch of a new smartphone packing a clamshell design, and the phone has already made an appearance in China, it seems.

The flip phone was spotted with model number Samsung SM-G9098 attached to it, and it might hit shelves as the successor of Galaxy Golden, the latest clamshell device from the company, which arrived back in November last year.

The new phone has already received the necessary certification from China’s TENAA, as GSMInsider has found out. This means that it might not be too long before it is officially unveiled, yet no specific details on when that might happen have been provided as of now.

As GSMArena notes, no info on the market name of this smartphone has been provided either, though it will certainly not be called G9098 when launched.

However, the TENAA listing did unveil some of the hardware specs of this device, and we now know that it will be released with two 3.67-inch displays capable of offering a WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) resolution.

Moreover, the yet unannounced device is said to be powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core processor and to feature 2GB of RAM, which means that it will be able to deliver more than decent performance capabilities.

No specific info on the processor model has been provided, but chances are that it will come from Qualcomm and that it will be a Snapdragon 800 chipset.

The Samsung SM-G9098 will also be released with support for GSM, HSPA, and TD-SCDMA connectivity, as well as with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth packed inside. Moreover, it will feature a built-in GPS receiver, it seems.

A 13-megapixel camera will also be included in the package, which means that it will offer support for full HD video recording right from the start.

Moreover, the TENAA listing confirms that Samsung will launch it with dual-SIM capabilities packed inside, as well as with a microSD memory card slot.

Samsung SM-G9098 should be released with the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top right from the start. However, considering its hardware specs, we wouldn’t be surprised if Android 4.4 KitKat was pushed to it even before release.

There’s no telling on when the device will become official, and it also remains to be seen whether Samsung will bring it to other markets out there as well or will offer it exclusively to users in China, so stay tuned to learn more on the matter.
