It should be announced as a premium smartphone from Samsung

South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics has been long rumored to plan the launch of a series of premium Android smartphones that would include specs higher than what flagship handsets usually include, and one of these devices appears to have emerged online.

The phone was spotted on the GFXBench benchmarking database, where it features model number SM-G906S.

No official confirmation on what the device could be all about has been provided as of now, and there’s no info available on whether it will ever be launched, or when that might happen, but it seems that we’re looking at a very high-end handset from Samsung.

As PhoneArena points out, the new smartphone has emerged on the benchmarking website with a Quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixels) touchscreen display.

Samsung was previously said to plan on releasing a Galaxy S5 premium version with a 2K screen, but the company denied that; yet, it appears that it is indeed working on new, better handsets.

However, said Galaxy S5 variant was spotted before with a model number SM-G900R4 attached to it, which suggests that the SM-G906S might actually be unveiled as a completely different smartphone.

Unfortunately, the info tab on this new Samsung device was hidden, and there’s no telling on what kind of processor it included.

On the other hand, the phone has managed to outperform the Exynos-based Galaxy S5 (model SM-G900H) in GFXBench’s Manhattan test, which suggests that it might pack a new, better CPU inside. However, it remained behind SM-G900H in the T-Rex test.

Smartphones that include 2K screens have already arrived on the market, although Samsung and other top mobile phone makers out there did not launch their own devices that feature such capabilities.

Moving forth, however, we should see some more such devices being released, and the new Samsung SM-G906S might be one of them, that’s for sure.

Previous analyst reports on the smartphone segment suggested that tens of millions of 2K handsets will be shipped before the end of this year, and that the number will increase much more starting with the next year.

With the mobile industry moving at a fast pace towards embracing newer, more advanced technologies, this does not come as a surprise at all, one should agree.

However, it remains to be seen exactly when Samsung will make such a move as well. The company did deny plans for a premium Galaxy S5, but it never said that smartphones with premium build and capabilities haven't been included in its roadmap.
