A new Samsung smartphone has received the necessary approvals from the FCC this week, featuring model number SM-G906S and rumored to be the long-expected premium version of the Galaxy S5 handset.

The mobile phone was spotted online before, said to have been designed for South Korean mobile phone carrier SK Telecom (it will be accompanied by SM-G906K and SM-G906L models, destined for the country’s KT and LG U+).

The FCC listing for the mobile phone does not unveil too many details on what users should expect from it, except for the fact that it will offer support for LTE band 5 and band 17, which are not supported by US carriers at the moment.

As PhoneArena notes, rumor has it that the phone will arrive on shelves with a Quad HD (1,440 x 2,560 pixels) display, as well we with a quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor inside, paired with 3GB of RAM.

However, chances are that it will actually be released in South Korea as an LTE-Advanced flavor of the Galaxy S5, packing the same specs as the original, except for the added support for faster data connectivity.

The Galaxy S5 Prime might actually be released as Samsung Galaxy F, a new series of smartphones from Samsung, aimed at replacing the Galaxy S lineup.
