Today, a new smartphone model coming from South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics has made an official appearance in AnTuTu, in the form of Samsung SM-G906A, which is expected to land on shelves as Galaxy S5 Prime.

However, what’s very interesting to see is that the phone has been spotted in the benchmarking application with specs lower than what the premium flavor of the Galaxy S5 was initially rumored to sport.

To be more precise, the phone has made an appearance in AnTuTu with a 5.2-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering only a full HD (1930 x 1080 pixels) resolution, despite the fact that it was long rumored to sport a 2K (2560 x 1440 pixels) screen when released.

Furthermore, the listing mentions only a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor inside the phone, although initial rumors suggested that it would include a Snapdragon 805 CPU.

The SM-G906A has also emerged in AnTuTu with Adreno 330 graphics, as well as with the Android 4.4.3 KitKat operating system loaded on top.

The rest of the smartphone’s hardware specifications are similar to what the original Galaxy S5 smartphone has to offer at the moment, including 2GB of RAM, as well as 16GB of internal memory.

Moreover, the handset is listed there with a 16-megapixel camera on the back, which is complemented by a 2MP front camera, exactly as on the already available model.

While the cameras on this phone are indeed in line with what was previously rumored for the Galaxy S5 Prime, the rest of the specifications are not consistent with it.

As SamMobile notes, this could suggest that the Samsung SM-G906A would indeed be a new Galaxy S5 model, just not the premium flavor that enthusiasts are so eagerly waiting to arrive on the market.

Previously, the SM-G906 was spotted online with specs that indeed pointed at the Galaxy S5 Prime, and the name itself was seen on a certification website, but the new AnTuTu listing appears to create a bit of confusion on the matter.

What remains to be seen at the moment is whether Samsung would be aiming at launching the smartphone with modified hardware specifications on different markets around the word.

The South Korean vendor has been rumored to be planning on launching an exclusive version of the device on its homeland market, and chances are that the same model will be pushed to other countries with a bit downgraded specs.

However, with no official confirmation on the above, you should take this with a grain of salt. Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy S5 Prime in South Korea next month, so stay tuned to learn more on it.
