14 DAY TRIAL // A new Android-based smartphone from Samsung might arrive on shelves in the not-too-distant future in the popular Galaxy S series, one that could prove a cheaper version of Galaxy S5, and which has emerged in benchmarks with model number SM-G850 attached to it.
The handset has been spotted at GFXbench with the Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system loaded on top, and with a smaller, 4.7-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering an HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution.
The Samsung SM-G850 made it online a few times before, when it was believed to be the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active, yet the hardware specs that were attached to the phone as part of the aforementioned benchmark listing show that it will be a completely different phone.
According to a post on kopengalaxys5.nl, we might actually be looking at the Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo in said GFXBench listing, despite the fact that no official confirmation on the device has emerged as of now.
However, others suggest that this phone could actually be the Galaxy F premium phone that Samsung might reveal next month. We'll take that with a grain of sale for now, since it's unlikely that Galaxy F will sport only an HD screen.
The hardware specifications that this handset might arrive on the market with appear to be high-end, although its touchscreen display suggests that it might not be launched as part of this market segment.
Apparently, the new phone will arrive on shelves with a 1.8GHz octa-core Samsung Exynos 5 Octa (4xCortex A15 + 4xCortex A7 - ARMv7 big.LITTLE) processor inside, paired with 2GB of RAM and Mali-T628 graphics.
On top of that, the phone should sport 32GB of internal memory, along with an 11- or 12-megapixel camera on the back, capable of recording videos in full HD resolution.
The smartphone will also feature a 2MP front camera for making video calls while on the go, also capable of full HD videos, the aforementioned benchmark listing reveals.
The usual set of sensors and connectivity capabilities (NFC, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy) will also be included in the package, while Google’s Android 4.4.4 KitKat platform is said to be loaded on top of the smartphone.
All in all, the yet unannounced mobile phone might be revealed as a cheaper version of Samsung Galaxy S5, though one still capable of providing users with appealing performance capabilities.
