Might be the first Windows Phone 7 device from Samsung

South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung is among the first companies to come to the market with a handset powered by Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 operating system, that's for sure. The handset vendor already pushed such a prototype device into the wild, one that included pre-production hardware and pre-release Windows Phone 7 flavors, but it seems that things moved a little closer to the final release, with the company's SGH-i917 Cetus mobile phone being touted by the Bluetooth SIG.

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group has just published an online document that details some of the specifications this device would come to the market with (via IntoMobile). For example, beside the new Windows Phone 7 operating system from Microsoft, those who would purchase this handset should also be able to enjoy a 4-inch AMOLED touchscreen display that boasts a 800 x 480 pixel resolution, as well as a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, complemented by a front-facing camera for video calling.

But that it not all, it seems. Although the Bluetooth SIG documentation doesn't usually offer info on all specs of a mobile phone, things are different this time. The upcoming device is also said to include support for SMS with threaded view, as well as for MMS, e-mail and Instant Messaging, in addition to featuring Microsoft Internet Explorer mobile browser, Stereo FM radio, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, microUSB port, and built-in GPS receiver.

All in all, chances are that Samsung would bring to shelves some very appealing Windows Phone 7 devices, just as it recently did in the Android area. Samsung SGH-i917 Cetus is one such phone, and it might be followed by similar handsets, even if the company did not announce something official on this until now. But with LG expected to launch its first Windows Phone 7 handset in September, followed by other phones before the end of the year, Samsung might not stay away of the party for too long, that's for sure.
