South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics is reportedly gearing up for the release of a new set of handsets running under Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system, and the recently spotted Samsung SGH-i677 might be one of them.
Rumor has it that this might be the successor of the company's Samsung Focus handset, which landed on shelves with model number SGH-I927 attached to it.
While this is not a confirmed fact for the time being, the one thing that is certain is that the mobile phone would arrive on shelves with the Windows Phone platform on board.
It was already spotted on the Bluetooth certification website, and a user agent profile for it was potted on the Internet.
Apparently,
the mobile phone would be set to arrive on shelves with WVGA screen, while featuring the Internet Explorer 9 mobile browser, which clearly shows that the handset will run under Mango, the next flavor of Microsoft's mobile platform.
Moreover, given the fact that previous SGH-i6x7 smartphones were based on Microsoft's OS, and that they all included physical keyboards, some suggest that the upcoming SGH-i677 might be a similar device.
Whether it would sport a BlackBerry-like form factor, or a sliding QWERTY keyboard, it remains to be seen.
For the time being, it's certain that Samsung will indeed launch new handsets running under the Windows Phone operating system, although the company has not offered specific info on them until now.
Windows Phone Mango was already
released to manufacturing, and the very first handset in the world to run under it was announced, the
Fujitsu-Toshiba IS12T, which means that new smartphones based on it should be unveiled soon as well.
Microsoft already announced that these phones would be launched during fall, and Samsung's Windows Phone Mango-powered handsets should make an appearance into the wild at that time as well.(
