Not only for the beautiful ones

Samsung SGH E840 has just been released under the associated name of Lancome to boost up its popularity. The handset has been unveiled at the Fete de Beaute of Lancome and targets especially women interested in the fashionable dimension of technology.

Mobile phone producers seem to be under the impression that their brand alone is not enough for arousing the interest of people on a specific device. With this in mind, they associate their name with that of famous fashion designers and now even cosmetics producers. Of course, it's easier to borrow a name which screams style instead of trying to develop a handset that is fashionable through its design alone.

"Samsung recognizes the impact that style and fashion has on our culture today", said Spencer Shim, President of Samsung's Electronics Philippines Corporation. "With trends indicating that women outspend men in the gadget department, Samsung knows that on-the-go women desire full-featured multimedia phones in eye-catching and compact 'fit in my evening purse' designs. As part of our strategy to meet specific market needs, we have added this new phone to reach a highly-targeted segment of the female market" Shim also said.

The greatest thing about Samsung SGH E840 is that, unlike most other fashionable phones out there, it also packs some evolved performances, aside from its good looks. The handset has a 2.2 inch screen capable of supporting a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and also packs support for a large number of media files. It also includes an FM radio and 3G, some features that not all mobile phones out there provide.

The slider looks highly elegant, although it follows the line that previous Samsung phones have set throughout the years. Its design is somewhere in between the D900 and U600 models, making Lancome's touch difficult to spot in the design of the E840 model.
