South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung has just announced a new Android handset for wireless carrier China Telecom, namely the SCH-W999.

However, this is no ordinary smartphone, since it sports a clamshell form factor, while also packing two displays, both with touch capabilities.

The two screens were placed back to back, and each of them is a 3.5-inch Super AMOLED panel that can deliver a 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

Along with these, the new mobile phone sports a fast 1.2GHz application processor inside, a dual-core Qualcomm MSM8660, which should result in increased performance capabilities being delivered to users.

The specifications list of the new device also shows Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi and WAPI (China’s own WiFi standard).

At the same time, the new mobile phone was packed with a 5-megapixel photo snapper, which should deliver video recording capabilities too, especially since it is paired with the aforementioned powerful application processor.

The new handset is powered by Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and sports the TouchWiz interface on top of it.

Moreover, it is said to come with the same HyperSkin back cover that Galaxy Nexus also sports, which means better grip and anti-smear.

As stated above, the new handset is expected to arrive on shelves at wireless carrier China Telecom, and will feature both dual SIM slots and dual-mode connectivity (GSM and CDMA2000).

For the time being, no specific release date for the new mobile phone has been unveiled, nor a price tag for it.

However, rumor has it that it would be set to arrive on shelves sometime in 2012, and that it would be priced somewhere in the $1,400 area, the same as its predecessor, the W899, was.

One thing that is certain is that the new device seems to be standing up in the crowd, courtesy both of its design, and of the powerful hardware Samsung packed it with.

With the Chinese market already taking the top spot in sales from the US, we would not be surprised if Samsung announced great sales of this handset.
