Wireless carrier AT&T has recently announced the launch of a new mobile phone on its airwaves, the Samsung Rugby II, a next generation Push to Talk device that should be put on sale come June 6. According to the company, the new handset comes with a durable, military-grade design, which can withstand harsh environmental conditions. Additionally, the AT&T exclusive phone will boast HSPA 7.2 Mbps connectivity options, for an enhanced 3G experience, the carrier stated.

The Samsung Rugby II will become available at AT&T in a grey, rugged clamshell design. The mobile phone comes to the market with noise suppression technology, an external speaker for easy communication no matter the environment, and with military standard MIL-STD-810G certification. The device is capable of withstanding dust, shock, vibration, rain, humidity, solar radiation, altitude and temperature extremes.

“The Samsung Rugby II offers our customers a sturdy phone that can withstand some of the roughest environments,” said Michael Woodward, vice president, Mobile Phone Portfolio, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “This is a no-nonsense, durable device with easy-to-use features like Push-to-Talk and a one-touch button to keep you in touch with your contacts while backed by the nation’s fastest 3G network.”

The specifications list of this handset also includes advanced aGPS capabilities with support for AT&T Navigator, a 2.0-megapixel photo snapper with video recording capabilities, Bluetooth capabilities, microSD memory card slot for additional storage space, dual-band 3G connectivity and quad-band GSM technology, and others more. Not to mention that the handset comes with support for AT&T Video Share, Mobile Video and AT&T Mobile Music.

“With advanced aGPS capabilities, users can stay on the right track. The Rugby II features AT&T Navigator, which offers voice-guided and visual turn-by-turn GPS driving directions with automatic reroute, full-color maps, and real-time traffic alerts, as well as AT&T Family Map, which gives families the ability to track a child's location from a PC or cell phone and request location updates at any time. The Rugby II also includes access to aGPS applications, including Loopt, Trimble Outdoors, AllSport GPS and Where,” the carrier added.

The new Samsung Rugby II is set to become available for purchase on June 6 via all AT&T retail locations and online on the wireless carrier's website. The price tag for this device has been set at $129.99 upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement and after a $50 mail-in rebate.
