South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung still has to update all of the available Samsung Galaxy S devices on the market to the Android 2.2 Froyo OS flavor, but it seems that it is already gearing up for the release of a Gingerbread update for the handset.

According to Samsung Romania's Facebook profile, the flagship smartphone the company brought to shelves last year should taste the new platform flavor before the end of this month.

Moreover, the company notes that Samsung Galaxy S devices would be upgraded to the Android 2.2.1 OS version prior to Android 2.3, and that the entire process would kick off on March 20th.

In other words, the handset vendor's subsidiary commits to pushing out two OS upgrades for Galaxy S smartphones in a 10-day time frame.

In addition to informing users on these updates for Galaxy S, the company unveiled that it has some plans for other Samsung Android phones as well, including the I5500 and I5800 smartphones.

Samsung Romania says that the former should be upgraded to Android 2.2 Froyo during the next week, while the latter would taste the new OS by the end of the month.

These are great news for Samsung users out there, especially for those who have been long waiting for the availability of a new platform version for their devices.

Moreover, the announcement is in line with some of the previous rumors we heard on the matter, according to which Samsung would plan on rolling-out Android 2.3 for Galaxy S units out there before the end of March.

Whether the announcement made by the company's Romanian subsidiary would involve only handsets available on the local market, or it would apply to those in other countries as well, it remains to be seen.

For the time being, we can only keep our fingers crossed for this to happen. Keep an eye on this space for more info on Galaxy S and the OS updates Samsung has in store for it.
