Samsung, one of the world's leading vendors of consumer electronics and storage products, has recently announced, in Taiwan, the introduction of its premium Samsung memory cards. Designed to compete with similar products from the likes of SanDisk, Kingston and others, the new Samsung-branded memory cards are available in a number of formats, including SD, microSD and Compact Flash (CF), with users being able to choose from three different capacities for the time being. In addition to a high level of performance, these cards have also been built to ensure that the user's data is protected, even when exposed to unfavorable environments.

“The market for memory cards continues to grow in leaps and bounds as consumers push for added storage in smart phones and other mobile devices,” said Dong Soo Jun, executive vice president, strategic marketing team, Memory Division, Samsung Electronics. “Our well-established leadership in the digital memory card space provides an ideal footing from which to launch premium memory cards that can match rapidly evolving high-end premium devices such as smart phones and high-performance digital still cameras,” he explained. “Our cards also provide consumers with more of the outstanding reliability that they have come to expect from Samsung semiconductor products.”

According to Samsung, its memory cards will be available in a range of formats, including the aforementioned SD, microSD and Compact Flash. Part of the company's premium “Plus” family, the new solutions are compliant with Secured Digital 6 ratings of performance and will be available in capacities of 4GB, 8GB and 16GB, depending on the user's requirements.

As far as performance goes, these cards are said to be capable of providing consumers with a high level of performance in both read and write speeds. Most of Samsung's premium Plus memory cards are capable of reading data at speeds of 17MB/s, while CF cards can deliver a reported read speed of up to 45MB/s, according to Samsung. While users across the world will be able to pick one of these cards later on, in Taiwan they are available this month.
