Today, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics made available for download the open source kernel for the Galaxy Note 8.0 (GT-N5110) tablet PC.

Running under Google’s Jelly Bean operating system, the slate will be made available for purchase with voice call capabilities, expanding its features beyond what tablets can offer at the moment.

Right now, those who would like to learn more on the software loaded on this device can head over to the Samsung Open Source website and download the kernel files for either the international or the North American version of Galaxy Note 8.0.

As Android Police notes in a recent post, the availability of these files will enable developers to start building applications designed specifically for the device, or to tweak the available platform and come up with custom ROMs for it.
