There will be a greater variety of such devices this year

Samsung became one of the best-known suppliers of tablets back when it entered the patent war against Apple, a patent war that is still ongoing.

That is part of the reason its slates sold so well, and still sell well for that matter: lots of free publicity.

Time has passed though, and Samsung wants to make sure it has more slates up for sale, to cover all potential customer segments.

Thus, according to a report, it has decided to increase the number of 7-, 8- and 10.1-inch tablets this year (2013), and somehow sell the slates for $149-199 / 149-199 Euro, $249-299 / 249-299 Euro and $329-329 Euro, respectively.

Everything is meant to lead to shipments of 40 million slates, versus the 15 million in 2012.

A similar tactic based on variety will be adopted on the ultrabook market.
