Samsung Electronics announced the launch of the 8 GB Dual In-line FB-DIMM memories, adopting the 80 nm (nanometers) technology. The company says that the new memories are a major technological move ahead for the advanced server architectures.

Producers
that will use the Samsung high density memory modules can now increase the amount of installed memory, also leaving free slots for future upgrades. The new Samsung memories, like the 8 GB FB-DIMM ones, are ideal for applications that are space savvy, like blade of 1U servers.

The new FB-DIMM architecture skips the anterior limitations.
The DRAM modules of a FB-DIMM system can be increased by the number of 8, without reducing the speed. Until now, server designers had to choose between limiting the memory density for reducing the errors caused by high speed or to accept lower speeds for obtaining a higher density.

Using the new Samsung memory modules, designers can use at its full potential the enhanced support for memory from the most recent operating systems designed for servers, in order to increase performance.
