Samsung Presents World's First QWXGA (2048 x 1152) PC Monitor

The 2342BWX model

Samsung has managed to keep itself at the top of the LCD PC monitor market by constantly taking into account the customer feedback regarding its products and coming up with innovative products that answer the users' demands. And especially for those office workers in dire need of more desktop space, the Korean company has just announced the 2342BWX, which seems to be the world's first computer monitor to support the QWXGA (2048 x 1152 pixels) resolution.

As it can be clearly seen from the photos, the device will create enough "room" for running multiple applications, allowing users to even open two documents side by side AND view the Windows Vista SideBar at the same time. Practically, by providing so much space, Samsung's 23-inch monitor helps users (or, more likely, companies) save quite a lot of money, since they won't need to purchase two separate peripherals in order to be able to work in optimum conditions. Plus, given the supported aspect ratio (16:9) and resolution, users will also be able to watch motion pictures in their native format.

Unfortunately, though, besides the very unusual resolution and the aspect ratio, very little is actually known about the 2342BWX. We can only make some wild guesses regarding the connectivity options it will be able to provide, but it's safe to say that it will feature VGA and DVI connectors, and, hopefully, DisplayPort or HDMI.

According to the folks over at Akihabara News, the price for Samsung's QWXGA monitor will be of around 230 Euros (297 US dollars) when it arrives in stores in Korea (the exact launch date has not been announced yet). Of course, this means that users from the rest of the world will most likely have to pay significantly more for this device, but given just how useful it could prove to be for the corporate environment, we might actually see it in stores pretty soon.
