The new build should arrive sometime in March/April

Android 5.0 Lollipop has been out and about for three months now, but it hasn’t made it out to many handsets. With the exception of a select few, most Android smartphones are still waiting to get the Lollipop treatment.

As for the tablets, the story gets even bleaker. As far as we know, the Nexus 9 and NVIDIA Shield Tablet are the only two slates that run Google’s latest OS.

So is that it? We certainly hope not.

Samsung has been quite slow to provide the update, but currently some of its flagships, including the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S4, are getting Lollipop in select regions.

Well, Samsung appears to have plans of adopting its high-end Galaxy Tab S tablets to Android Lollipop. Thank goodness!

The Galaxy Tab S family has been announced with a lot of bells and whistles this summer. It’s Sammy’s first attempt after a long time to launch AMOLED tablets and the result was quite glorious.

The tablets are extremely sleek and thin, taking advantage of impressive hardware specs and boasting beautiful, crisp displays.

Now the folks over at Sam Mobile, who are pretty well known for leaking information about Samsung products, claim that the Korean tech giant is working on the Android 5.x Lollipop update for its AMOLED tablet duo.

When can we hope to see the update?

They implied that the new build might make it out in March or in April, so we still have a few months to wait until we can see the devices get updated.

Take note that the exact build number wasn’t specified, so given that Android 5.1 has been making rounds online in the last few days, we might end up seeing this particular version make its way onto Samsung’s premium AMOLED bunch.

As with most software updates, the Android 5.x rollout will happen gradually, so some models will get it sooner than others (depending on the region they are in).

In case you have forgotten, the Tab S 8.5 and Tab S 10.5 are being offered with Super AMOLED panels (2,560 x 1,600 pixels), 3GB of RAM and an octa-core Exynos 5420 processor.

We reviewed the Galaxy Tab S 10.4 and found it quite lovely, so if you’re curious, you can check out our notes.
