The Galaxy Core and Galaxy Mega 2 will get Android 5.0

A while ago, a report came in claiming that Samsung hadn’t yet begun the development of Android 5.1 for its devices.

Google’s latest build was released a few weeks ago, and currently, only Nexus devices and Google Play Edition models are rocking it.

Manufacturers like Motorola have already announced the advent of the new build on a number of handsets. A soak test for the second-generation Moto X has already been initiated, for instance.

But since the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have been made available for purchase, Samsung has probably realized it needs to get busy with updates yet again.

The Galaxy S6 will get Google's latest soon

Today brings us a report from Sam Mobile which tells us that Samsung is currently working on the Android 5.1 update for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. On top of that, sources familiar with the matter also reveal that the Korean tech giant is also planning to update the Galaxy Grand Prime to Lollipop 5.1.

Don’t confuse this model with the Galaxy Core Prime, which is a separate variant and we have some news regarding it too. Apparently, this phone model and the Galaxy Mega 2 are poised to be updated to Android 5.0 very soon.

Since Samsung is done updating most of its recent flagships to Lollipop, it appears time has come to move its attention towards its mid-range lineup of smartphones and tablets. Which is something we have been anticipating.

Another interesting fact revealed by this report is that, even though we've been telling you the old Galaxy Note 2 would receive an unexpected Lollipop treatment, it seems that Samsung is taking its sweet time with developing the new build.

In all possibility, the old Note 2 could receive the update alongside the Mega 2. But that’s just speculation for the time being, as we don’t have any official confirmation on this.

If you’re the owner of a Galaxy Note 2, you should take into consideration the possibility that your phone might never get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update and remain forever with Android KitKat. However, some folks wouldn't mind that at all, given the slew of issues Lollipop brings into the equation.
