Samsung may not yet be shipping the Series 5 ULTRA collection of mobile computers, but it will start to do so soon enough, so it went ahead and introduced the pair.

The Series 5 ULTRA could be said to have a fairly self-explanatory name, since it is composed of Ultrabooks.

There are, or there will be, both 13-inch and 14-inch machines for sale, all of them offering a high level of performance, or so Samsung promises, according to VR-Zone.

The Series 5 ULTRA 13-inch model is only 14mm-thick in some places and weighs just 1.43 kilograms (0.55 inches / 3.15 pounds).

With an HDD of 500 GB offering the necessary storage space, it boasts a second-generation Intel Core i5-2467M CPU (central processing unit) and up to 8GB of RAM (random access memory).

It also comes with a full-size HDMI port, an USB 3.0 connector, a pair of USB 2.0 ports, 4-in-1 card reader and Ethernet.

Furthermore, the screen is a 300-nit HD LED SuperBright liquid crystal display that also benefits from the Image Enhancer technology. It has an anti-reflective attribute too.

The Series 5 ULTRA 14-inch machine is superior in more ways than one, meaning that the larger screen is not the only difference between them.

While the CPU and memory are on the same level, this one also boasts an AMD Radeon HD 7550M discrete GPU (with 1GB VRAM).

Furthermore, the hard drive unit is of 1TB instead of 500GB, and there is even an ODD (optical disk drive) thrown into the mix.

Samsung will start selling both Ultrabooks soon, for the prices of $1,030 / 790 Euro (13-inch) and $1,270 / 973 Euro (14-inch).

Both will run for up to 6.4 hours on a single battery charge and, thanks to hardware/software optimizations and Samsung's own fast boot features, will wake up in less than two seconds and boot in a maximum of 20.
