Samsung pokes a little fun at its own product launch

Samsung is expected to make a big splash when it launches the Galaxy S6 flagship in a few days at MWC 2015 in Barcelona.

But albeit being up against the big boys (Apple, HTC and others), Samsung appears to be particularly relaxed about the whole Galaxy S6 affair.

The company has set up Is This the Next website where it has been posting a slew of exaggerated concepts for the upcoming Galaxy S6 and calling them “rumors.”

The latest says that the Galaxy S6 will be made entirely out of glass and we’re even showed a depiction of what the phone might end up looking like.

Naturally, this won’t be the case, but the “rumor” does have a dose of truth in it. Current hearsay has been indicating that the Galaxy S6 will be made of a combination of glass and metal.

This particular image also reminds us of Samsung’s futuristic transparent phone which got showcased at CES 2015.

The see-through phone was actually a prop to be used by Tony Stark / Iron Man (played by Robert Downey Jr.) in the “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” blockbuster.

Is This the Next website also posted rumors according to which the Galaxy S6 will come with forward-facing stereo speakers, a durable build and a display that is supposed to reach onto the 3 sides (talking about the Galaxy S6 Edge).

While all of these teasers are grounded in reality, the concept phones revealed in the photos are highly futuristic.

Which makes us think of a recent discussion where Samsung’s former Head of Product Strategy, Kevin Lee explained that we shouldn’t be expecting any innovative designs to come out of the Korean company any time soon.

The problem is not that innovative ideas aren’t available, actually he claims he has been witness to amazing ideas, the kind that have the potential to revolutionize the stagnating mobile market.

So maybe Samsung wants to give us a sneak peek at the atypical designs it has considered (ever briefly) for its Galaxy S6.

But as Lee points out, it’s not easy to break the market pattern and come out with something completely different out of the blue.

So don’t expect any glass smartphones anytime soon.
