Windows 8 is Microsoft's next installment of its iconic operating system, so, naturally, PC makers are planning ahead, Samsung included.
Samsung is going to do its best to be at the front of the Windows 8 device flow, like every PC maker out there has a mind to.
Still, up to now, there wasn't much information on just what its Windows 8 plans consisted of.
True enough, even
the new report on the matter lacks concrete data, but that is still more than nothing.
The company wants to make at least two products to start with, a tablet and a notebook.
With Windows 8 supporting ARM, this would have been easy enough to assume and, thus, is not a very big surprise.
The Series 7 of laptop line is said to be Samsung's priority, though many things can change until the second half of 2012.
At least by that time the worst of the
HDD and PC shortage will have ended, unless further disruptions occur.
There will more than likely be a whole bunch of releases in that time period and onwards, until a competition between the new OS and Google's Android sparks.
Samsung obviously isn't the only company that will release notebooks and tablets loaded with Windows 8.
Though Wintel tablets haven't had much luck so far, it is because Windows 7 just wasn't made for the format and isn't optimized for touch control.
When the new Windows is ready, it should be easier for PC makers to actually make media slates with it instead of having success on the enterprise front alone.
Series 7 slates or notebooks will probably have an Intel Core processor, Core i5 most likely, as well as 4 GB of RAM, touchscreens of 11.6 inches or so (resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels) and the regular connectivity and I/O (WiFi, Bluetooth, USB, webcam, memory card slot, etc.).
