Samsung is preparing to expand its range of Centrino 2-based portable computer systems with the introduction of two new models, the Q320 and the R522, each of them having been designed for different computer users, a detail that is fairly given away by the overall design of the two and the internal hardware specifications. While the R522 comes with a screen size of 15.6-inch, the other model, the Q320, comes in a 13.4-inch form factor, to provide a computing alternative to those ultra-portable enthusiasts.
Unfortunately, there are few technical details available on the new Samsung Centrino 2 portable computer systems. According to a recent article on reghardware, both systems have been featured with unspecified Intel Core 2 Duo processors and will ship with 6-cell batteries. The 13.4-inch Q320 model has been fitted with one of NVIDIA's latest graphics processors, the GeForce G105M, while the graphics card for the higher model hasn't been specified yet.
The 15.6-inch R522 boasts an aluminum-style palm rest and has a blue backlit touchpad. This model is said to be capable of providing up to five hours of battery life, a good 30 minutes better than the 6-cell battery on the 13.4-inch Q320 model. In addition, the R422 has been designed with four USB ports and a combo USB/eSATA connection. One of the intriguing features of the Q320 is that it is said to feature just one USB port and the USB/eSATA connection. This could ultimately be one of the notebook's issues.
As with most unreleased products, the new Centrino 2-based Samsung laptops are yet to receive an official price tag. However, according to the details made available by the aforementioned website, both the R522 and Q320 should become available next month, by which time we should know more on the systems' pricing and hardware configurations.
