After countless rumors, leaked images and several press photos let loose on the Web, today, Samsung has fully unveiled its M8800
Pixon 8 Megapixel camera phone. In doing so, the company has become the only handset manufacturer to have officially presented two phones that feature such an evolved camera, the first one being Samsung Innov8, which is already available for purchase across Europe.

Presented as the thinnest 8 MP camera phone ever, Samsung Pixon measures 108 x 54.6 x 13.8 millimeters, being with only 0.2 millimeters slimmer than LG KC910.

The 8 Megapixel camera of Samsung Pixon features auto focus, flash, face detection, WDR, geotagging, lens cover and video recording at up to 120 frames per second, so, needless to say, it is one of the best cameras unleashed on the mobile market until now.

Pixon's other specs are also on the high-end side, including a 3.2-inch TFT touchscreen display with 240 x 400 pixels and 262K colors, GPS and A-GPS, quad-band GSM connectivity (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) and HSDPA 2100 MHz connectivity, email and Web browser, Video player with support for DivX and XviD, TV out, Music player, Surround Sound System (SSR), FM radio with RDS, Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0, 200MB of internal memory and microSD card support for up to 8GB. The handset includes a 1000 mAh battery capable of lasting up to 3.6 hours in talk-time mode or up to 290 hours in stand-by.

“Now everyone will be able to <get their pics on> so much more quickly and easily,” declared Samsung Telecommunications' President Geesung Choi. “For the first time you will have a camera on your phone capable of delivering the quality of image of a regular camera. The big benefit is not just the ease with which people will now be able to capture and share camera-phone shots, but the quality of those shots when taken.”

Samsung Pixon will first be available in France, starting mid-October, with other European markets to follow shortly after. The handset's retail price is currently not known.
