It might use them for soon-to-come smartphones, such as Galaxy S5

South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics has been granted a patent for new phone and phone case designs, which suggests that it might be finally getting ready to make a change to the looks of its Galaxy smartphones.

The design patents were discovered by patentbolt at the US Patent and Trademark Office. They show a smartphone that resembles the Galaxy Note 3, with squared corners, SamMobile notes.

However, the handset features a different back, while having all the ports placed at the bottom. The phone maker might include the design in a new device soon, though it remains to be seen whether the upcoming Galaxy S5 will feature these looks or not.

Moreover, the design patent for the phone case shows a change in the wallet-like shells that Samsung has been using for its smartphones. There is a third flap included in the mix, which could hold a credit and / or debit card.
