Looks like Samsung can add another point to the data security score sheet.

Word just came in about the PM810 solid state drive (SSD) and how it got validated under the Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP).

It has been found compliant with Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 data security guidelines.

In other words, the unit's data protection features are about as high as they can be.

Samsung gave it 256-bit AES encryption (it is a self-encryption drive) and also implemented the Crypto Erase technology.

The latter can delete any or all data on the drive within seconds if unauthorized users try to access it.

With all the hacking going on all over the web, the IT industry is placing a higher emphasis than ever on security.

Thus, businessmen concerned about their trade secrets may as well get such drives.
