Samsung announced today that its P960 TV mobile phone was ready to hit the European market and that it would be commercially available in the next days / weeks / months, depending on each country.

First unveiled at the beginning of the year, during MWC 2008, Samsung P960 is among the few handsets to come to Europe with support for Mobile TV. The device works with both of the current European mobile TV standards: DVB-CBMS (Digital Video Broadcast - Convergence of Broadcast and Mobile Service) and OMA-BCAST (Open Mobile Alliance Mobile Broadcast Service Enabler Suite). Moreover, Samsung says the new phone is the world's first TV phone to come in a slider form factor and to support DVB-H.

The TV-related features of P960 include: a 2.6 inch TFT display with 240 x 320 pixels, 263K colors and DNIe image enhancement, TV-out, ESG (Electronic Service Guide) for on-screen program guides, PIP (Picture in Picture) for viewing two channels simultaneously, and Time-shifting, a feature that allows you to view the programs without interruptions, even if in the meantime incoming calls are received.

Besides the TV capabilities, Samsung P960 also packs Bang & Olufsen ICEPower technology for a high-end audio experience, a 3.15 Megapixel camera with flash and video recording, tri-band GSM and HSDPA 2100 connectivity (hence 3G data transfer speeds can be obtained), Music player, FM radio with RDS, email and Internet capabilities, Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0, microSD card support and so on. The phone is only 16.7 millimeters thick and includes a 1200 mAh battery capable of offering up to 5 hours of TV-watching.

Geesung Choi, President of Samsung's Telecom Business, declared in a press release issued today: "Samsung has already achieved a stable No. 1 leader position in Korea as the mobile TV phone provider. There is no doubt Samsung will continue the success in Europe with P960."

The exact markets that will get the new Samsung P960 were not unveiled and neither was the price of the phone. Anyway, the P960 will surely be available in most of the mature mobile markets like the UK, Germany, Italy or France.
