Samsung P960 is one of the latest handsets created by the South Korean company. It was first presented during MWC 2008 in Barcelona, Spain, together with other high-end phones,
including G810, Samsung's flagship that we recently had the occasion to
play with, at the CeBIT 2008 Fair.
Like the G810 model, Samsung P960 comes in a slider form factor, it has a nice metallic look and packs enough high-end features to be attractive to many mobile users. The phone measures 102 x 53 x 16.5 millimeters and one of its highlights is the built-in DVB-H TV broadcast receiver, similar to the one found integrated by Nokia in the soon to come
N96 handset. Moreover, on the TV side of the P960, we have TV-out and a retractable TV antenna, to make a true mini-TV out of the device.
Samsung P960 also comes with tri-band GSM connectivity plus HSDPA 2100, a 2.6 inch TFT display with 256K colors and a 240 x 320 pixels resolution, Music player with support for MP3, AAC and AAC+, FM radio with RDS, Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0, Java MIDP 2.0, WAP 2.0/xHTML browser, email capabilities, document viewer, organizer and microSD card support. A 3 Megapixel camera with video recording is also included, but unfortunately it has no flash nor auto focus.
Recent rumors say the P960 slider will be released soon (in Taiwan, for example), but "soon" can even mean the third quarter of 2008, so we should not get too excited about that. There are no details regarding the handset's retail price, but we assume it will be somewhere between the one of a mid-end phone and the one of a high-end phone. Anyway, until anything official comes in, we can't know for sure.
