Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has just made available another appealing handset for its users, namely the Samsung Omnia II, which runs under Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system. The device, available for purchase from Big Red since yesterday, has emerged in an unboxing and hands-on video, and a series of photos with it coming out of the retail package are also available.

As many of you might already know, the phone sports a 3.7-inch AMOLED WVGA screen, while also including a 5-megapixel photo snapper. It seems to be one of the nicest mobile phones Samsung has delivered to the market during the ongoing year, and it is also the first mobile phone from Verizon that sports the TouchWiz 2.0 user interface.

What users will enjoy when purchasing the Samsung Omnia II from Verizon includes the presence of a Widget Store, not to mention the new look and feel it brings to the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system from Microsoft. At the same time, most of you might have learned by now that it comes with a Samsung-exclusive “Swype” keyboard, which is expected to enable users type much faster than with other soft keyboards available on the market.

The new high-end device is available for purchase from Big Red with a price tag of $199.99 upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement. Moreover, those willing to snag this phone will also have the opportunity to get a second device from the carrier, free with a two-year contract. Considering the goodies Omnia II is capable of delivering, buying it alone seems like a good deal.

On the downside, this Windows phone comes to Verizon a little later than originally expected. The first rumors on its arrival emerged back in September, but Big Red launched it only three months later, after putting the Motorola DROID on sale. And one should agree that DROID is a powerful competitor for Omnia II. Even so, in case you want to learn more on the new handset, you can take a look at the video below, or head over to Engadget to view the photo gallery too.
