Leading mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. announced today that its Windows Mobile-powered handset Samsung Omnia II (I8000) would become available in more markets around the world starting with this month. The handset delivers the latest advancements in mobile phone technologies, such as an 800MHz application processor or a WVGA AMOLED display.

A number of 20 new markets will receive the Samsung Omnia II, the company announced, among which we can count The Netherlands, China, Australia, Turkey and The United Arab Emirates. In addition, we should also mention that the phone is currently available in markets like Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam, where it was launched in July.

“Samsung has made a great effort to reinforce its leadership in the Smartphone market over the past several years and the success of Omnia II is proof of our continuous efforts,” said Younghee Lee, vice president of marketing, Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics. “I strongly believe that Omnia II satisfies the needs of consumers who want it all - efficiency at work, communications with their loved ones, fun multimedia experiences and style for any occasion.”

What Samsung Omnia II should deliver to users includes Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional (eligible for upgrade to the 6.5 flavor of the OS as soon as it becomes available), a 3.7-inch display, an innovative TouchWiz 2.0 User Interface, rich multimedia functions, such as DVD-like video recording/playback, Internet browsing, 3-D games and A-GPS, as well as HSUPA 5.76Mbps, HSDPA 7.2Mbps and Wi-Fi capabilities.

Beside the enhanced and convenient multimedia experience, the handset also provides up to 48GB of storage space, through the combination of its internal memory with the removable storage capabilities. “The powerful multimedia capabilities in the Samsung Omnia II, combined with the familiar, easy-to-use Windows Mobile software, give customers a single, versatile phone for work, home or play,” said Stephanie Ferguson, general manager of product management, Microsoft Corp.
