South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung is getting ready to come to the market with yet another high-end appealing mobile phone, the Samsung Omnia II. Running under Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system (only the 6.1 version at the moment, though expected to feature 6.5 when it becomes available), the handset can now be pre-ordered at Amazon, where it is listed as sporting a $999.99 price tag.

As many of you may already know, Samsung announced at the beginning of last month that the Omnia II would be launched on a wide range of markets during August, only that the US hasn't been included in the list. Even so, some of the latest rumors around suggest that Verizon might carry the phone, and that the launch is imminent. However, until something official is announced, Amazon seems to remain an option, though we might say that a rather pricey one.

The Samsung Omnia II is a great phone, indeed, and its specifications list shows a 3.7-inch resistive touchscreen AMOLED display that boasts a 480 x 800 pixel resolution and supports 16M colors, a 5-megapixel camera with video recording capabilities, Samsung's TouchWiz 2.0 user interface applied over the Windows Mobile 6.1 OS, Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS receiver with A-GPS support, and 8GB of internal memory coupled with a microSD memory card slot that supports up to 32GB of additional storage space.

Other features are also there, yet they might not appeal to users as much as to make them pay $1,000 for the phone, especially when compared to cheaper counterparts that boast similar functionalities. Those who would like to pre-order the Samsung Omnia II on Amazon will find it available here. Those who consider the pre-order price too high should wait for Verizon and Samsung to announce something officially, and, hopefully, their wait won't be in vain. Stay tuned to learn more details on this.
