The first Samsung Omnia to be released on the market, the i900 came around featuring Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system, while the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD is expected to show up running the Symbian S60 5th Edition platform.

Even so, in addition to the Symbian Omnia HD, the recent rumors around the Internet pointed towards the fact that we should be able to see an Omnia handset released to the market under the Windows Mobile 6.5 platform, yet it seems that they were unconfirmed by the latest news on the Korean mobile phone maker.

According to ms mobiles, the company will only come to the market with a Symbian version of the device, while leaving Microsoft's operating system aside. The reason for choosing one platform over the other is the fact that the Redmond software giant has delayed the release of Windows Mobile 6.5, at least this is what sources from Korea seem to have said.

This does not mean that Samsung will leave Windows Mobile for good, but only that it is open to other operating systems as well. In addition, the move allows it to make steps forward and not have to wait for Microsoft to slowly come up with its platform. In addition, the mobile phone maker already proved that it could provide handsets powered by different platforms, as it even launched devices that run under Palm OS.

For the time being, we'll only see the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD released under the Symbian S60 OS, but the company is also reported to not limit the Omnia series to only two platforms. Besides the Windows Mobile handsets that are already out in the wild, and some more will probably come in the end, we should also be able to see Android-based phones come to the market in the not so distant future, at least this is what the aforementioned sources noted.

We already learned that the company intended to release a handset powered by Google's Android platform, and a blurry image of said device also surfaced to the Web not long ago. Given the recent news, there are also some chances that the device we saw there will be released under the Omnia brand, yet nothing is clear at the moment.
