South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung has reportedly released a new firmware update for one of its most popular devices on the market, the Samsung I8910 Omnia HD. There are a wide range of novelties that the new software comes with to the device, including a series of bug fixes and improvements, as well as new features.

According to Symbian World, the new firmware version has been released only for Omnia HD users in Hong Kong and Russia at the moment, yet it should become available for users in other countries as well in the near future. However, until more details on when and where the firmware will become available, we should take a look at what has been included with it.

For starters, the new software solution for the device comes with a camera fix, which replaces the AMR codec with AAC. Other changes that come with the new firmware version include an updated uTalk multiprotocol instant messenger, update to the Xvid Codec, a browser fix, improvements to the QWERTY keyboard, with the spaces between the keys enlarged, a series of other minor updates applied, as well as some newly added features.

New in this release is the Samsung 3D Task Switcher, which replaces the older Task Switcher, One Finger Zoom, a weather forecast widget, Utalk widget and Dictionary widget, as well as support for more data types. In addition, users can also set the refresh rate for the Task Switcher, so that less CPU resources are used.

As many of you might already know, Samsung already released a camera fix for the Italian version of Omnia HD that also replaced the ARM codec with AAC for audio encoding, which should improve the video recording capabilities of the device. Along with the rest of the improvements, the new firmware update seems to be a great thing for the handset's users, providing that Samsung won't be too late with its release on more areas than Hong Kong and Russia.
